During the months of July and August 2008, I am planning to cycle across America, starting at Oceanside, California on the west coast, and finishing over 3,000 miles later on the east coast at the First Landing Site, Virginia.
Who am I raising money for?
My two chosen charities for this challenge are the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK, and I am aiming to raise £5,000, which will be divided between the two charities upon completion.
When am I doing it?
The brief plan for the challenge consists of flying out of the UK on Saturday 19th July 2008, cycling the 3,116 miles from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, and then departing for the UK on Sunday 31st August 2008.
Who's paying/organising the trip?
With regards to the costs of the trip, my wife and I are intending to fund it ourselves at present, as we feel that all moneys we manage to raise really should be going to our two nominated charities and not used to absorb the challenge expenses.
We will also be fully responsible for all the planning of the trip, as we are attempting this completely independently of any organization. As a result, we will be devoting the majority of our spare time in the forthcoming months to arranging fundraising events (we have already held a launch party which was a great success, raising over £430 - have a look at the Halloween launch party pics in the Gallery section!) as well as research, planning, and of course, lots of training!
One last thing......
Please remember to visit this website regularly during both the planning stages and the challenge months, as we will be updating it with more information regarding the challenge, as well as posting information about future fundraising events. It is also possible to donate online via the website and see lots of pictures of all the events that we organise.
