APRIL FUNDRAISER

This was our second fundraising party and despite knowing how much work was involved in organising such an evening, we were still running around at the eleventh hour trying to sort the last few details before the big night!

In the build up to this event Amy had been in contact with Fudges Bakery in Stalbridge and they had very kindly offered to provide a supply of snacks for the occasion. We’d indicated to them we were expecting in the region of 60 – 70 people and when I stopped by their premises to pick up the donation, I was amazed to find a mountain of various snacks, plus a lovely hamper they’d prepared for the raffle. We’d certainly like to thank everybody at Fudges for this generous offering, with a special mention to Sue Fudge who was so keen to offer their help.

After the success of the last party we decided we’d like to do another quiz and what better subject to base it on than the challenge itself! We put together a set of questions which covered all aspects of the trip as well throwing in some American-themed general knowledge to keep people on their toes. I guess it’s only easy if you know the answers, so it certainly helped educate people about the finer points on what we’re doing.

I’d also taken the turbo trainer on the night with my mountain bike fixed to it. The challenge was to see who could ride a kilometre the quickest and after an initially slow start (I guess people needed a couple of drinks to think it was a good idea!), we had quite a few people test their fitness! Congratulations go to John who won the male contest with a time of 59 seconds and also to Lisa who won the female contest in a time of 1 minute 33 sec.

I didn’t expect to see such a competitive streak in people, but bearing in mind that Lisa had to be helped off the bike, and the fact that John needed a ‘quiet moment of reflection’ outside, it showed that they were putting their all into it!!

As with the previous party we held a raffle and a special mention must go to Mike and Vic who bought nearly an entire book of raffle tickets between them!

In total we raised the sum of £420 from the evening which was a fantastic achievement. We would like to say thank you to everybody who came along and for helping us raise this amount.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to once again thank everybody who was involved in the organisation and build up to this party. Praise must go to our long suffering parents, as well as Mike and Vic, Wendy and Neil, Heather and Matt and Brynn, and to everybody else who leant a hand with the preparation!
