"Why!?" Seems to be a common response from people when I tell them that I'm planning to cycle across America!!
If I'm honest, I can trace the roots of this plan right back to when, as a schoolboy, I remember watching a documentary following some crazy fools who were participating in the Race Across America (RAAM) competition. To anyone who doesn't know what this is, it's basically a cycle race from one side of America to the other, to be completed in the shortest possible time. Now although I never had great aspirations of competing in the race myself, the idea of cycling across America really appealed. After all, not only is it a fairly big challenge to take on, but what better way of seeing such a diverse country.
