UPDATE 8th November 2007
Amount raised: £432
I think it's fair to say that the Halloween party was a huge success!! Considering it was our first party everything seemed to go to plan, and more importantly, everybody who came had a great time!
We were pleasantly surprised how many turned up in fancy dress and it was clear that all had put a lot of effort, time and money into their costumes. Special mention should be made of Heather's effort which won the 'Best Fancy Dress' award for her home-made corpse bride outfit!
The Halloween themed quiz that we'd devised was also a hit - with general 'Halloween themed' trivia, guess the song titles, movie anagrams, and of course the very popular, guess the items in the coffin!!! I think it's fair to say that all teams did shockingly poor on the answers and it appeared that some teams had put more effort into their team name rather than getting correct answers (Darryl, Mark & James.........).
It came as quite a surprise when 'Team Chease Sandwich' (yes, that is how they spelt it!) emerged victorious over the competition. Clearly their combination of youthful exuberance in Mike the Viking and the trusty knowledge (who said old!?) of Phil the Grim Reaper worked well enough to score their team the first prize of a huge tin of chocolates as well as a free round of drinks!
I have to also mention that the raffle was the stuff of legend quite frankly! Again, considering this was the launch of the fundraising we were very lucky to receive a particularly large donation from Nick at Consolite Technology Ltd, which made all the difference to the raffle prizes. What could have been nothing more than a few unwanted Christmas presents, turned out to be an outstanding selection of prizes ranging from bottles of wine (won mainly by children worryingly!), vouchers for golf lessons, through to a very nice digital radio and also a particularly expensive food & wine hamper.
After all this activity it was time to dim the lights and let the music do the talking(?). It's a shame that none of the cameras appeared to work that well in the dark as there could have been some excellent blackmail material gained! Typically the dancefloor at a party tends to be the domain of the adolescent young girl, high from drinking coke all night and in desparate need of burning off some excess energy......now with that in mind, we still can't explain how Darryl managed to single-handedly 'own the dance floor' for quite so long?!
All in all, it really was a great evenings entertainment and everyone seems really keen to know when the next party will be!!
